Join CCL as a Research Engineer
The Center for Collective Learning (CCL) is a multidisciplinary research group focused on economic geography, urban science, and complex systems under the leadership of Professor César A. Hidalgo.
We are opening a two-year position on city science, citizen participation, and city improvement supported by the Driving Urban Transitions partnership. The partnership focuses on advancing the quality and vibrancy of urban neighborhoods. The ideal candidate will have strong computational, analytical, and experimental skills.
Synopsis
We are looking for an entrepreneurial and resourceful research engineer who is comfortable working with streetscape images and can work as a full stack web developer. The engineer will have to build and manage the creation of streetscape datasets for several European cities and generate an interface that would help score these images using crowdsourcing and machine learning methods. This work will build on a tradition of urban perception work conducted previously at the Center for Collective Learning and is aimed to bring this tradition to the age of generative AI.
About the role
The data engineer will work closely with other members of CCL to build resources that will facilitate the collection of primary data and the visualization of results.
The data engineer will be expected to contribute to activities such as data collection, storage, management and analysis
The data engineer will support the team with some local sys-admin responsibilities
This is a full-time two-year position (24 months)
About you
The ideal candidate will be fluent in English.
You will have a degree in computer science, economics, physics, engineering, or other quantitative field with a demonstrated experience in data science.
The candidate has a portfolio of completed online projects
Prior experience in academia is an advantage, but not a requirenment
Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team
